Which citrus fruits are best for coffee
Start with the classics – lemon or orange. Both fruits have a thick peel full of aromatic essential oils that are instantly transferred to the hot drink. At the same time, lemon and orange zest are very convenient to add to coffee when making in a Turk. In the finished drink, juice is usually squeezed out or a whole slice is added. And be sure to make sure that the citrus is fresh, aromatic, without signs of “fatigue”.

To balance the sourness, it is appropriate to add a sweetener to citrus coffee – honey, sugar or syrup. Another good option is to complement the drink with a sweet dessert. For example, a delicate biscuit, fruits and milk chocolate candies.

Popular Citrus Coffee Recipes
With lemon: espresso romano
It is also known as Roman coffee. According to the generally accepted legend, it was invented in the Eternal City, although in fact similar recipes can be found among many peoples of Southern Europe.
It is very easy to prepare. Add half a thin slice of lemon to the espresso and let the coffee sit for one or two minutes so that it absorbs the taste and aroma of the citrus.

Instead of espresso, which is used in the canonical Italian recipe, it is quite acceptable to prepare regular strong coffee in a Turk (2 teaspoons of ground beans per 100 ml of water).
If the combination seems pleasant, try increasing the amount of lemon in the cup to two wedges, or squeeze the juice directly from the fruit itself, but no more than a teaspoon.

With orange: “bumblebee” coffee
Most often, orange bumble is a cold summer drink that is very refreshing and energizing. However, it also exists in a warm version. In coffee shops, it is made from caramel syrup (10-15 ml), quality juice (100 ml) and double espresso, pouring into a glass in layers in the order specified.
You can do the same at home or experiment by decreasing or increasing the amount of juice, replacing the “boxed” juice with freshly squeezed juice, adding honey or cane sugar instead of syrup. And, by the way, Turkish coffee is also quite appropriate if you don’t have a coffee machine.

With lime: Guillermo coffee
Very similar to Romano, but still completely different. Just as Romano is prepared only with lemon, so for Guillermo, lime is a must. Otherwise, everything is the same: add a slice of lime to a double espresso or squeeze out some fresh juice. Sugar – to taste, but remember that the Spaniards did without it in the original recipe.

With Mandarin: New Year’s Latte
If you simply squeeze the juice from a tangerine, you’ll get a variation on the bumble theme, but you can go further and make a fragrant latte with the taste of New Year.
- To do this, prepare tangerine syrup: boil the pitted and veined fruit with sugar or honey until it thickens (about five minutes).
- Prepare black coffee in any way (50-100 ml), pour in a couple of tablespoons of syrup and add warm milk (100 ml).
Try adding tangerine peel to your Turk when making spiced coffee. This will give the drink a brighter taste and aroma.

How else to play with citrus coffee
Bergamot: Bold coffee and tea
The combination of coffee and tea is called “dirty”, but tea with bergamot is a special case. To get an unusual coffee drink, brew “Earl Grey” and add 15-20 ml to strong coffee.

Kumquat, Sweetie and Pomelo: Coffee with a Beautiful Serving
Small orange citrus fruits are not usually added to hot coffee, but they can be a great addition to cappuccino, Americano or simple black Turkish coffee. The same goes for peeled and sliced sweetie and pomelo.
Grapefruit is also never used to make warm coffee – it is an option for refreshing summer drinks.
